What Is an AI SEO Agency?
An AI SEO agency makes your brand the source that answer engines quote. Instead of optimising for a blue link, the work targets the citation itself. That is the moment ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews names your company inside an answer. The deliverable is a citation, not a ranking.

02
Off-Site Presence
Engines cite the publications covering you as often as they cite you. If the domains quoted for your buyers' questions have never mentioned you, on-page work will not close the gap.

Why This Is Urgent Now, Not Next Year
The click is disappearing faster than the traffic forecast. Most Google searches now end without anyone visiting a website, and analysts expect organic traffic to follow. If your brand is not inside the answer, there is no second chance further down the page, because there is no page.
Two Thirds of Searches End Without a Click
In the first four months of 2026, 68.01% of Google searches ended without a click, up from 60.45% in 2024. (SparkToro / Similarweb, 2026)

What Every Month of Waiting Actually Costs
1
A Re-Crawl Cycle You Cannot Buy Back
Fix a page today and it may not be quoted for weeks. The engine has to re-crawl it, then prefer it over what it quotes now.
2
A Mention Footprint That Compounds for Someone Else
Every month a competitor is the quoted answer, they collect the mentions that make them the quoted answer next month.
3
A Model That Settles on Their Name, Not Yours
Assistants lean on what the wider web already says about a brand. A citation lead is self-reinforcing in a way a ranking never was.
4
A Budget That Cannot Fix It Later
You cannot buy back the months an engine spent learning that somebody else answers your buyers' question.
5
A Baseline You No Longer Have
Start in six months and you measure from a worse position, with no record of where you were. The before-and-after you could have owned is gone.
6
A Category Definition Written Without You
Assistants summarise what a category is and who is in it. Brands absent while that summary forms spend years arguing their way back into it.
The brands winning the citation space now started while the category was still called an experiment.
Honest Answers
The Five Objections We Hear on Every Call
These are the questions buyers actually ask us, answered in the open rather than after you have booked a call. Two of the five answers are reasons you might not need us at all. We would rather lose the call than win the account and lose the renewal six months later.
“Isn't AI SEO Just SEO With a New Name?”
Partly, and any agency telling you otherwise is selling. The technical foundation is shared. Crawlable pages, clean structure, real authority. If your classic SEO is broken, no amount of AEO work rescues you.
What changed is the unit of success. Ranking rewards a page that satisfies a query. Citation rewards a passage an engine can lift whole, attributed to a source it trusts.
That means answer-shaped structure, sourced claims on the page, and a deliberate off-site mention footprint. Those are new jobs, not renamed ones.
“Can You Guarantee I'll Show Up in ChatGPT?”
No. Nobody can, and a guarantee is the clearest signal you are being sold to. Model outputs shift with each version update. An engine can change what it cites with no change on your side at all.
What we commit to instead is method. A measured baseline before we start, a frozen prompt set you sign off, and monthly reporting on share of voice against three named competitors.
If your visibility rises while theirs falls, that is the work. If everyone rises together, we tell you it was a model update, because we report their numbers next to yours.
“How Would I Know It's Working? AI Traffic Doesn't Show in Analytics.”
Correct, and this is the most honest problem in the category. Most AI referrals land in Direct. Assistants strip the referrer, in-app browsers pass nothing, and people copy and paste URLs out of answers. Only ChatGPT tags its links at all.
So we do not lead with traffic. Citation share and prompt coverage are the headline. Server logs showing assistants fetching your pages live are the leading indicator. Search Console AI impressions corroborate.
Then we add one question to your forms: how did you first hear about us? That catches the buyer who read about you in ChatGPT on Monday and searched your brand name on Thursday. Nothing else sees that person.
“We Already Rank #1. Why Do We Need This?”
You may not. If your category is not being answered by assistants yet, we will say so on the call rather than sell you a retainer.
The check takes an afternoon. Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity the ten questions your best customers ask before they buy. If you are named in most answers, your position is strong and the money belongs elsewhere.
If a competitor you outrank is named and you are not, that is the gap. Ranking first did not prevent it, because the assistant never showed the ranking.
“You Were an SEO Agency. Why Believe You've Really Switched?”
Fair, and the category deserves the scepticism. We tore down eight ranking AEO and GEO agency landing pages. Not one used a comparison table, only one handled buyer objections in the open, two published pricing, and none named a practitioner.
(Attrock teardown, n=8, 30 Aug 2026 · FP-20)
In eight ranking AEO agency pages, five showed no AI-specific client result at all, their proof was borrowed from SEO. (Attrock teardown, n=8, 30 Aug 2026 · FP-22)
Our answer is to publish what they don't. Our own citation counts sit at the top of this page. The engagement scope is further down it. The person running the work is named.
And where our proof is classic SEO rather than AI visibility, we label it that way instead of letting you assume.

How to Judge Any Agency on This List, Including Us
Ask for their own citation numbers, dated. Ask which competitors they measure you against. Ask which of their tactics are proven and which are reasoned. Three questions, and most shortlists get shorter fast.
If the score says you don't need us, we'll say so.
How the Work Runs
Our Five-Step AI SEO Process
Every engagement runs the same five steps in the same order. Measure the baseline, map the prompts buyers actually use, make the pages extractable, build the off-site mentions engines cite, then re-measure against the frozen baseline. Step one is never skipped, because without it there is no proof at the end.
Baseline: Before Anything Changes
We capture your share of voice and prompt coverage across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI surfaces, alongside three named competitors. We score every priority page for citability and audit your robots and firewall rules for AI-agent blocks.
We also take dated screenshots of the answers where your brand is absent today. Six months later, the same ten prompts with your name in them do more in a board meeting than any chart.
Output: a signed baseline you can hold us to
Prompt Universe: The Questions, Not the Keywords
We build and freeze a set of 100 to 150 real buyer prompts across the awareness ladder: problem-aware, solution-aware, comparison and branded. Buyers describe jobs to an assistant far more often than they type category nouns.
The prompt set becomes the measurement instrument, so it is frozen and signed off before work begins. Changing it mid-engagement voids every before-and-after comparison, and we will not do it quietly.
Output: a frozen prompt set, signed off before work begins
Make the Pages Extractable
Question-shaped headings with the answer immediately beneath. Self-contained passages that survive being lifted out of context. Comparison tables where a comparison is being asked for. Sourced, dated, attributed claims on the page itself.
Adding citations, quotations and statistics carries more weight than the rest of the on-page work. Everything else we do here, we label as the mechanism or the association it is, rather than implying it is proven.
Output: a ranked fix list with the points each fix recovers
Earn the Off-Site Mentions Engines Pull From
We identify which third-party domains actually get cited for your prompt set, then go and get you covered there. This is usually where the largest share of citation gain comes from.
It is also the part most in-house teams cannot run alone. It needs editorial relationships and a pitch worth publishing, not a software subscription.
Output: placements on the domains your prompts already cite
Re-Measure Against the Frozen Baseline
Same prompt set, same engines, same competitors, same scoring version. We report what moved, what did not, and what the competitor set did, so you can tell our work from a model update.
Where a number is soft, we say so rather than rounding it into a headline. A report you can argue with is worth more than one you cannot check.
Output: a monthly report with the method stated, not hidden
Awaiting case study
What these steps produced: baseline figure, re-measured figure, window.
Every retainer includes measurement, on-page work and off-site citation building. What changes between engagements is the weighting. A technically clean site with no third-party presence gets more of the off-site budget. A well-covered brand with unextractable pages gets more of the on-page budget.

Proof
What We've Actually Moved
Two kinds of proof appear below, labelled so you can tell them apart. AI-visibility results are recent and few, because the category is young and we will not inflate them. Classic SEO results run longer and look stronger, but they are evidence of durable capability rather than AI citation work.
AI Visibility · Named Client
32 → 305 citations
WhenAvailable's AI citations grew from 32 to 305 between February and August 2026.
Delivery Record · Named Client
1 post & 9 brand mentions a month, 17 months
For WhenAvailable we published one blog post a month and earned nine brand mentions a month, every month, for 17 months.
Classic SEO Capability, Not an AEO Result
WhenAvailable's organic traffic grew from 3,020 to 9,127 monthly visits over 17 months, a 202% increase.
WhenAvailable went from 117 to 648 page-one keywords, a 453% increase, over 17 months.
WhenAvailable's Domain Rating rose from 38 to 51 and referring domains from 268 to 853 over 17 months.
Original Research · Ours
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode did not appear in Ahrefs' citation index before roughly spring 2026, which means any AI-citation growth figure spanning that boundary is partly measuring index coverage rather than performance.

AI SEO Agency FAQs
These are the questions buyers send us before a first call, answered here so you do not have to ask them. Where the honest answer is that you may not need an agency, that is the answer we have given. Nothing below is qualified by a sales conversation.
Which AI SEO Agencies Are the Best?+
Judge on four things. Do they publish their own AI citation numbers? Do they measure share of voice against named competitors on a frozen prompt set? Do they separate AI-visibility results from classic SEO results? And do they say which tactics are unproven?
An agency failing all four is selling SEO with new labels. Ask any shortlist those questions, including us. If we fail one, we would rather you found out now.
How Is an AI SEO Agency Different From a Traditional SEO Agency?+
A traditional SEO agency optimises for a position on a results page. An AI SEO agency optimises for a citation inside an answer. The technical foundation overlaps almost completely, but the deliverable differs: a ranking versus a mention.
Measurement differs too. You track share of voice across buyer prompts rather than positions across keywords, and you report per engine rather than as a single number.
How Long Does AI SEO Take to Show Results?+
Server logs move first. You can see assistants fetching a rewritten page within days of publishing it. Citations follow later, once the engine has re-crawled the page and has a reason to prefer it over what it currently quotes.
Share of voice is the slowest to shift, because it depends on your competitors too. Plan the programme in quarters, not weeks, and judge it on the frozen baseline you signed at the start.
Can You Guarantee My Brand Will Appear in ChatGPT?+
No, and any agency that guarantees it is misrepresenting how these systems work. Model updates change outputs with no change on your side at all.
What we commit to is method rather than outcome. A measured baseline before we start, a frozen prompt set you sign off, and monthly reporting against three named competitors.
That way you can tell our work apart from a model update, because you see their numbers next to yours.
Why Doesn't AI Traffic Show Up Properly in Google Analytics?+
Most AI referrals land in Direct. Assistants strip or shorten the referrer header, and in-app browsers pass none at all.
Many people copy a URL out of an answer rather than clicking it. Only ChatGPT appends a tracking parameter, so every dataset in this category over-represents ChatGPT.
That is why we report citations as the headline metric and treat referral traffic as supporting evidence rather than the story.
Do I Need AI SEO If I Already Rank Number One?+
Possibly not, and the test costs you an afternoon. Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity the ten questions your buyers ask before purchasing. If you are named in most of the answers, your position is strong and the budget belongs elsewhere.
If a competitor you outrank is named and you are not, ranking first did not protect you. The buyer never saw the ranking at all.
What Does AI SEO Cost?+
Every engagement is scoped to your goals rather than sold from a tier list. The deliverable set stays the same across all of them.
What changes is the weighting: how many pages need rewriting, how competitive your prompt space is, and how much third-party coverage you already have. The free score is how we scope it, so you get a real number rather than a range.
Does Schema Markup Help With AI Citations?+
It helps machines parse your page, which is worth doing, but treat it as hygiene rather than a citation lever. Some schema types that once earned rich results no longer do, so check what a given markup still buys you before investing in it.
The stronger investment is the content itself: sourced references, attributed quotations and real numbers on the page.
Can You Work Alongside Our Existing SEO Agency?+
Yes, and it is a common arrangement. They keep rankings and technical health. We take citability, prompt coverage and off-site citation acquisition. The one hard requirement is a shared page inventory, so that nobody rewrites the same URL twice in a month.
Two teams editing one page destroys the before-and-after measurement, and then neither of us can prove what worked.
